How to Complete a Score Sheet in Bocce

Though bocce is a popular pastime and casual fun game for many fans and enthusiasts around the world, you might still find yourself in the middle of more competitive games. You might even find yourself drawn to official tournaments and bocce ball league games.

In this case, the knowledge of completing a score sheet in bocce ball might come in handy. While official rules and guidelines on doing it could vary from one league or tournament to another, here are the basics you need to know:

  1. At the top of the score sheet, fill out the details on the team name and team number. Also fill in the line for the date, division, and all other details the score sheet asks.
  2. The team line-up of players should be filled in before the start of the game. If there are no line-up changes done throughout the game, there’s no need to list down the players’ names again for games 2, 3, etc. Do it only for the first game.
  3. As the game goes on, pay attention to which team wins the frame and put in their score on the score sheet.
  4. At the end of the game, add and total each team’s scores and write them on the Score Total part at the bottom of the score sheet.

After filling out and completing the score sheet, it is the responsibility of both team’s Capo to confirm and verify the final score and sign the score sheet.

The team captains of both teams also have the responsibility of confirming and verifying their teams’ scores. The team captains will send the score sheet to the league or tournament scorekeeper

Playing Bocce Ball: Rules on Scoring

In bocce, only one team – the “in” team – gets to score any points in a single frame or round. To be the scoring team, your team should have a closer bocce ball to the pallino than the opposing team’s closest bocce ball.

Once determined who the “in” team is, they will gain one point for each of their balls closer to the pallino than the other team’s closest bocce ball.

And if the scoring team’s closest ball is a bacci, or if it’s “kissing” the pallino, they earn two points for that instead of one.

How to Play Bocce: Basic Rules and Guidelines

A game of bocce is played with several frames or rounds. A match starts with a coin toss to decide which of the two teams gets to throw the pallino. The same team also throws the first bocce ball into play.

Once all eight balls are on the field, scores are determined, and one frame ends.

The match ends once one team reaches the predetermined score (typically 12 points) and wins with two points ahead of the other team, making them the winning team.
